Visits to Schools (Auckland Region)
During terms one and four, WWF offers a free visit from a
registered teacher to all primary, intermediate and secondary
schools in the Auckland region including the west coast up
to Helensville and south to include Franklin district. The
one and a half hour session is designed for years 3-10. A
digital presentation of the dolphins and games and activities
are used to deliver important messages about threats facing
Maui's dolphin and how children and their families can take
action to protect them.
Since 2000 over 11,000 students in the Auckland and Waikato regions have been visited by a WWF teacher. The response from both students and teachers is consistently positive. Children enjoy learning about dolphins and a local conservation issue; and teachers readily recognise curriculum links and appreciate the quality of the presentation and the valuable learning outcomes for students.
